Iceland – geosciences and the art of photography

Date: May 20, 2026
Time: 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Location: Aldeburgh Library

We are pleased to announce that this month we have a member led session that combines geosciences with the art of photography.  Having been to Iceland on two occasions and studied Earth Sciences, APG President Alec Brown will be explaining the geology and geography of this fascinating country. The talk will be illustrated with images taken on those two trips

Iceland is about as far as Greece to fly to and a land of absolute quiet and sometimes spectacular natural noise and somewhere any photographer would find amazing landscapes and natural phenomena to capture.

Photoshoot 2026

Date: June 17, 2026
Time: 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Location: Snape Maltings, Suffolk

The beautiful tranquil setting of Snape Maltings is the location for our next group meeting.  Nestled within The Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, Snape Maltings sits on the bank of the River Alde and is just six miles from our usual base in Aldeburgh.  A feast of photographic opportunities awaits us from an array of wildlife attracted by the reedbeds and river, old converted Victorian buildings and sculptures by Barbara Hepworth.

Local photographer and writer, Richard Allenby-Pratt, will be leading the photoshoot and he will help us observe and better record the things we see with our cameras and smartphones.  Richard has won international awards and exhibited his work globally.  Closer to home, Richard leads The Suffolk Project, a study of the East Anglia landscape and its people so he is very well acquainted with the unique and fragile beauty of this coastal area.
